This was stated by the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division The National Police, Brigadier General (Pol) Awi Setiyono.
According to Awi, the cessation of the examination was carried out because Maria asked for legal assistance from the Dutch Embassy.
“The person concerned is essentially asking for assistance from legal advisors, especially those planned to be provided by the Dutch Embassy,” Awi said as quoted by Kompas.com on Monday (07/13/2020).
“However, because there is no legal counsel, the investigation is stopped and of course this is the right of the suspect. We respect it very much.”
Maria Pauline Lumowa is known to have been a Dutch citizen since 1979. Previously, Criminal Investigation sent a letter to the Dutch Embassy regarding Maria’s detention.
