—Servette has 38 points in 17 games under Jan Cadieux. The Swiss-Canadian has the best point average (2.24) of all coaches. Under predecessor Patrick Emond it was only one point per game.

A mortgage that the runner-up has now almost paid off. The gap to sixth playoff place and Davos is only four points. HCD was still the leader when Cadieux was promoted to head coach on November 11 and had a 23-point lead over Geneva.

The name Cadieux evokes memories of his father Paul-André. The French Canadian, who has also had a Swiss passport since 1982, celebrated his greatest successes as a player-coach. He first led SC Bern to promotion in 1972 and then to the championship title in 1974, 75 and 77. Davos and Langnau also rose with the small defender. As is well known, when he later stood on the gang at Fribourg, it was only enough for second place from 1992 to 1994.

“It’s also thanks to him that I’m here today,” says the Servette coach. “He taught me a lot. It was he who gave me the passion to be a coach from an early age.”

“I was very happy that he was there”
His 74-year-old father is still touring the stadiums for Radio Friborg 52 years after arriving in Switzerland. He announced his presence in Geneva to his son when Gottéron was a guest there on Wednesday.
–
“Just before the game I couldn’t remember if he would be there or not,” said Jan Cadieux (41) with a laugh. It was only the second time Paul-André had attended a Jan game since he was promoted to head coach. “The first time was in Bern. He hadn’t told me he would be there, nor had he come to me after the game. I think he wanted to leave me alone.”
–
This time the proud father congratulated his son on the 4:1 victory. “I was very happy that he was there. And it was also interesting to get his feedback after the game.” And what did the coaching legend say? “He saw the same game as you and I did,” said Jan, laughing. His father was surprised at how big the difference was to the game he had seen in Bern.
