Rachel says beforehand that she does not want to go to the oncology department. Yet her worst fear comes true. “I think that’s very tough. I think that’s very heavy,” she says. “I’m the type who takes all that home with me.”

Natasja Froger thinks that the pulmonary medicine department will open Rachel’s eyes. “I think the lung department will be tougher for you, because I think you’re going to stop smoking after this,” says René Froger’s wife bit. “Yes…”, says Rachel, nodding.

Although Rachel is an avid smoker, she is not afraid of the end of her life. “I’ve never been afraid of death. But I was afraid of the road to it. I think the suffering, the sadness and the pain are the worst.”
While working, she speaks to one of the patients. Rachel is touched by the story of the single woman undergoing chemotherapy. “Intense actually, if you are a divorced woman and you have such chemotherapy today, that you are not allowed to be ill in your own way. So just lie on the couch and have that cup of tea made for you.”
