Merdeka.com – NASA’s InSight lander mission has detected seismic waves from earthquakes that have occurred on Mars and meteorites that have crashed into Mars over the past four years.

These seismic waves are taken from a collection of sound waves that occur together when the vibrations move through the Martian center which is in the deepest layers of the planet Mars.

Data from the lander mission was used by researchers to determine that the planet Mars has liquid iron with the elements sulfur and oxygen which is located in the inner layers of the planet Mars.

Understanding the interior of Mars’ Martian mantle can give researchers deeper insight into the differences between Earth and Mars.

Through more insight into the planets Earth and Mars, researchers will know what factors can make these two planets habitable for humans.

A detailed study of this discovery has been published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Co-author of the journal, Vedran Lekic, said “in 1906, researchers discovered the layers of the earth through observing seismic waves moving through them,” reported CNN, Monday (24/4).

“Hundreds of years after that, we used the same implementation on the planet Mars, with InSight, we can finally explore what is in the center of the Martian layer that makes it similar to Earth.”

Earth has a liquid outer layer and a solid inner layer. After all, the Martian seams appeared to be completely formed by liquid.

The center of Mars also appears denser and smaller than previous researchers had believed, with a radius of about 1,780 to 1,810 kilometers.

Currently, the planet Mars has a minimal magnetic field, although there are some traces of magnetic residence in the Martian crust.

Through this discovery, researchers believe that the planet Mars could have been habitable in the past which then evolved into a frozen planet that was uninhabitable.

“InSight will continue to influence how we understand the formation and evolution of Mars and other planets in the future,” concluded Lekic.
