NASA will form a team to study unidentified aerial phenomena

WASHINGTON

The US space agency NASA on Thursday said it would form a team to study the unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP).

The new independent team will begin work early autumn to examine events that cannot be identified as planes or known natural phenomena.

“This study will focus on identifying the available data, the best way to collect future data, and how NASA can use that data to advance scientific understanding of STEAM,” the agency said in a statement.

This unknown phenomenon in the atmosphere is interesting to study for the sake of national security and air safety.

“NASA believes that scientific discovery tools are very powerful and apply here as well,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate head of science at NASA headquarters in Washington.

“We have access to a wide range of observations of Earth from space – and that is the lifeblood of scientific inquiry. We have the tools and teams that can help us improve our understanding of the unknown. That’s the true definition of what science is. That’s what we do, ” he added.

The agency said there was no evidence that the vapors had extraterrestrial origin.

The study team will be led by astrophysicist David Spergel, who is president of the Simons Foundation in New York and previously chaired the department of astrophysics at Princeton University.
