NASA talks about the possibility of the sun rising from the west

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A viral news some time ago revealed the sun rose from the west. It is even mentioned that this phenomenon makes it closer to the apocalypse and NASA is said to support that claim.

The news comes from a post on Facebook and is written in Thai and also appears with an English version. The sun appears from the west because the Earth rotates in the opposite direction.

“Earth will rotate in the opposite direction causing the Sun to emerge from the west side. Researchers believe that we are moving towards a magnetic field reversal that will mark the end of humanity and near the end of the world,” the post reads.

But NASA insists it does not support these claims. Bettina Inclan, NASA’s Associate Administrator for Communications, said both the US space agency and other organizations had never predicted the sunrise from the west.

“Neither NASA nor any other scientific organization predicts the Sun will rise from the west,” he said.

But he did not deny the existence of a magnetic field reversal phenomenon. Inclan said the phenomenon had occurred and a number of scientists studied it.

“The reversal of the magnetic field is indeed a real phenomenon that has occurred several times in the past and scientists around the world are studying it, but the statement that this makes the Earth rotate in the opposite direction which causes the Sun to rise from the west is wrong,” he explained.

The question of the sun rising from the west does happen. But this is experienced by Venus because the planet rotates on its axis backwards, NASA said.

Venus has a very long rotation of 243 Earth days. While Venus revolves around the Sun for 225 Earth days. This makes a day with a year on Venus only slightly different.

The turn of the day is long enough that it also has an impact on the appearance of the Sun on Venus. The planet only feels the Sun twice in one or every 117 Earth days.
