NASA | Perseverance: What are her tasks? Panorama of Mars

Rover Perseverance it is powered by a nuclear reactor and, in addition to 25 high-resolution cameras, it is also equipped with a laser and chemical analysis equipment. Perseverance is also equipped with two microphones. They record the sound of a rover – NASA plans to study the sound of drilling rock and sediment samples on the surface of Mars, from which it would be possible to draw conclusions about the hardness of the material. In addition, experts believe that the analysis of sound recordings will provide new data about the atmosphere of Mars.

Listen to the sounds of Mars:

In the first part, the sound of the rover Perseverance itself predominates. In the second half, the sound is already cleared. You can hear the sound of the wind on the red planet.

Perseverance Tasks

Planned operability Perseverance carts is one Martian year, ie 687 Earth days. Perseverance has several scientific goals. One is to identify environments that may have supported microbial life in the past, and another to look for signs of possible life in environments, especially rocks that are known to preserve traces of life.

Another important task to date, the largest and most sophisticated vehicle for exploring Mars, estimated at $ 2.8 billion, is to drill rock and surface samples. These are then stored in sealed metal tubes, which should be transported by future missions for detailed analysis on Earth.

Another goal of the project is to prepare the expedition of people to the red planet. It is a test of the technique usable in these missions. For example, to test methods for producing oxygen from the Martian atmosphere and to identify other possible sources, such as groundwater.
