NASA Invites Automotive Manufacturers to Produce Astronaut Carrier Cars to Replace Astrovans

Jakarta

The United States space agency, NASA, is looking for a new vehicle to transport astronauts who will make extraterrestrial flights. Automotive manufacturers from all over the world are invited to create futuristic transport vehicles.

The vehicle NASA needs is not to travel in space. But for use on Earth.

So far, NASA has a vehicle called the Astrovan to transport astronauts from Crew Quarters to the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center, which is about 14 km away.

Astrovans themselves have become NASA’s iconic vehicles, which they have used to transport astronauts to spacecraft prior to launch. However, the vehicle is very old because it has been continuously used since 1984. For this reason, NASA hopes that the Astronauts can be accompanied by a new vehicle to get to the launch pad.

Now for interested automotive manufacturers, NASA is waiting for proposals from each manufacturer, to tell how the design and what advantages are offered to be able to accompany the astronauts to the runway to be able to carry out the Artemis II mission.

The Artemis 2 mission is scheduled to depart from Earth in 2023. This mission is planned to explore the moon past the Earth’s orbit, and then return to Earth.

“Proposals must be unique, embrace new technologies, and visualize Artemis to the public. The vehicles will require eight seats, including four fully matched crew. Through this partnership, the agency will engage generations of Artemis from journey to landing, while inspiring the next exploration.” said a NASA spokesman.

Wow, which manufacturer will be chosen to accompany the astronauts?
