NASA Harvest Chili in Space

Monday, December 6, 2021 – 15:56 WIB

VIVA – Farming experiments conducted by the United States Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA consisting of planting and harvesting chilli from outer space breaking record.

This harvest even allows astronauts to eat more chilies grown in space.

The experiment also made history as the longest experiment conducted on the International Space Station (ISS), according to the page Science Alert, Monday, December 6, 2021.

This is the second time chili has been grown in space. Last November, the ISS crew used it for the first time to stuff tortillas along with beef and vegetable fajita (a Mexican specialty).

Matt Romeyn, chief investigator for NASA’s chili experiment, said the plant production team at NASA did not expect to achieve the two records.

The cayenne pepper plant is slightly delayed in harvesting. The trial at the station was extended to 17 days. Chili seedlings in the experimental center Plant Habitat-04 (PH-04) grew for four months before being harvested in October.

Crew-2 had more opportunities to sample it due to the delay in switching teams to Crew-3.
