NASA finds Newborn Island in the Pacific

Selebtek.suara.comNASA I saw a newborn island in the ocean Pacific. The island is the result of a series of volcanic eruptions located on Home Reef, an underwater mountain in the central Tonga archipelago.

NASA said the seamount repeatedly spewed lava and emitted plumes of ash and smoke starting September 10. However, eleven hours after the eruption began, the space agency began paying attention new island That.

The Tonga Geological Survey says the island is believed to be about 10 meters (33 feet) above sea level and 4,000 square meters (about 1 acre) wide.

However, six days later, the nascent island had grown to over 24,000 meters (about 6 hectares). This is a nice growth and shows how much seamount has erupted in the last few days.

The newborn island image shown above was captured by Landsat 9, which is part of NASA’s Operational Land Imager-2. The image was taken on September 14 and does not show how much the island has grown since its first appearance.

Unfortunately, NASA says the nascent island is unlikely to last long. However, some have persisted for several years.

The underwater volcano Home Reef has experienced four periods of eruption since its inception in 1852. After that, small islands formed and another event in 1857. Further eruptions in 1984 and 2006 also produced huge temporary islands with cliffs as high as at 70 meters.

The location of this nascent island is indeed ripe for such an event because it is located in an area with three tectonic plates.

The plates constantly meet, pushing the Pacific plate further below the other two. This led to one of the most volcanically active areas in the oceans and led to one of the deepest trenches on Earth.
