NASA develops fully functional trailers against Corona

With a few exceptions, the whole world currently seems to have allied against Corona. This applies not only to governments, but also to numerous organizations – and now also to NASA. The U.S. federal agency for space and flight science is usually more interested in anything outside the earth’s atmosphere, but this time NASA makes an exception.

PULSE: NASA jewelry against Covid-19

At PULSE it is a new gadget made by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) was developed. The operation of the device is as simple as it is efficient. Apart from droplets and aerosols, we are our greatest enemies when it comes to preventing the corona virus. Because washing your hands immediately when entering your own four walls is of little use if you have touched your face ten times in the meantime. And that’s exactly what NASA’s PULSE gadget is supposed to prevent.

How PULSE works

The operating principle of PULSE is extremely simple: The gadget attached to the neck as a pendant has an infrared sensor that detects hand movements towards the face. Then a vibration motor is switched on, which warns the user. This gives you the opportunity to counteract this reflex and lower your hand again. To illustrate the process, the JPL created and published a YouTube video – although for unknown reasons it was marked as “Not Listed”.

But: NASA gadget not commercially available

Anyone who is already completely convinced at this point and would like to secure PULSE may be disappointed at first. Because NASA does not sell the trailer on eBay or at Amazon. The authority has the Blueprints published for everyone and promises that anyone can easily reproduce the gadget – regardless of their technical know-how.

However, things are not quite that simple, because a 3D printer is required to produce the housing. Hobbyists without access to such a device must therefore improvise.

PULSE is not a replacement for protective masks

As useful as the new NASA trailer may be, it should by no means be seen as a replacement for protective masks and similar protective accessories. In the disclaimer, the responsible parties themselves state that the device is not certified in any way and is only intended to help supplement the spread of Covid-19.
