Drafting/CHANGE 22

United States authorities reported the discovery of a drug tunnel used by criminal groups with the length of an American football stadium that goes from Tijuana to San Diego.

Following the discovery, the US Department of Justice filed charges against six people for drug trafficking.

Authorities discovered a narco-tunnel leading from Tijuana, Mexico, to a warehouse in Otay Mesa, San Diego.

The underground passageway is around 532 meters long, 19 meters deep and one and a half meters in diameter.

It was built with reinforced walls, a rail system, electricity, and a ventilation system.

The discovery of the narco-tunnel derived from the surveillance of a home that was used as a hiding place for drug smuggling.

Six people were arrested for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The defendants are Mario Jaramillo of Huntington Beach; Adrian Enriquez of Perris, California; Juan Cruz of San Ysidro; and Vanessa Ramírez, Luz de Luna Olmos and Manuel Pérez from San Diego.

During the discovery of the underground passageway, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin were seized.

In the case of Olmos and Ramírez they are also charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and to distribute heroin.
