The patron saint of the city also performed the miracle in the year of the Coronavirus, in a Cathedral with only 200 admissions allowed between officials, authorities and citizens for compliance with anti-contagion regulations
An anomalous party – In a cathedral in Naples that has never been so empty, the miracle of San Gennaro took place again this year, the dissolution of the blood preserved in an ampoule that the cardinal shows to the faithful after taking it from the chapel of the Treasury of San Gennaro. To attend the auspicious rite – which is repeated three times a year, on 19 September, the day dedicated to the patron saint, on 16 December and the Saturday preceding the first Sunday in May – there were only 200 people including celebrants, authorities and the traditional Deputation of San Gennaro. To add a surreal atmosphere to the rite, also the absence of prayers and songs of the faithful, due to the Coronavirus prevention rules.
Set up maxi screen – In any case, the citizens were able to witness the miracle from the churchyard – where 300 seats were set up – or thanks to the big screens. Therefore, no gatherings, neither inside the church nor along via Duomo, always taken by assault in recent years. Blood that melts without lumps is considered a benevolent sign by the citizenry. On the other hand, when the prodigy takes place late, the population expects misfortunes.
