Sosok.ID – More than 50 people in the northern part Mozambique have been beheaded by jihadist groups, according to state media reports.
The militants turned a football field in a village into an “execution site”, where they beheaded and mutilated bodies, according to other reports.
Several people were also beheaded in other villages, state media reported.
The incident was the latest in a series of brutal attacks by militants in the natural gas-rich province of Cabo Delgado since 2017.
Up to 2,000 people have died and some 430,000 people have been left homeless in the conflict in the Muslim-majority province.
These militants have links to a group that calls itself the Islamic State (ISIS), which is also a foothold for the group in the southern part of the African continent.
The militant group has exploited local poverty and unemployment to recruit youth into their struggle movement aimed at establishing Islamic leadership in the region.
Many local residents complain that they have made little profit from the natural resources industry, including rubies and gas.
