NAC announced problems in gas import from Hungary

Hungarian gas transportation route will become problematic, warns in Ukraine

The Hungarian-Ukrainian route has become the most popular for gas imports to Ukraine, but due to the new contract, it may completely stop.

The signing of a new gas contract between Hungary and Gazprom will create problems with gas imports from Hungary to Ukraine and its storage. This was stated in the company GTS Operator of Ukraine in response to a request UNN.

“Without transit through Ukraine to Hungary and further to other countries, this mutually beneficial cooperation is questionable. And then both sides will suffer. The possibilities of importing from Hungary to Ukraine, storage of gas in Ukrainian UGS facilities by Hungarian companies will be significantly complicated without a physical flow in the direction of Ukraine. – Hungary. That is, not only Ukraine will suffer losses, ”the reply says.

The company also stressed that today “it is the Hungarian-Ukrainian route that has become the most demanded for the import of natural gas to Ukraine.”

In turn, the director for integrated communications of NJSC Naftogaz Maxim Belyavsky said Radio Libertythat the gas contract between Hungary and Russia will lead to a decrease in pumping and an increase in the cost of transporting gas through the territory of Ukraine. This will lead to the need to increase the number of units to maintain the correct pressure in the system.

Belyavsky noted that the annual gas consumption will grow by about 50 million cubic meters. “It is very easy to calculate how much it will be in monetary terms,” he added.

As a reminder, on September 27, the Hungarian company MVM Group and the Russian Gazprom in Budapest signed a gas supply contract to Hungary bypassing Ukraine. The agreement is designed for 15 years with the possibility of changing the volume of gas purchases in 10 years.

In Ukraine, they fear that the new gas contract between Russia and Hungary may lead to a reduction or full stop of transit on the territory of Ukraine.
