Navalni was charged with illegal acquisition of 31 million rubles (about 460 million won) from the Russian branch of a French cosmetics company in 2014. He was sentenced to three years and six months in prison and five years of probation, but has refused to be executed, claiming that he is a political prosecution. . The trial will begin on the 29th. On that day, the Russian correctional authorities requested a warrant for arrest, saying that Navalni must be detained until a trial is held on the 29th. The court approved it and sentenced it to arrest for 30 days until the 15th of next month.

Following criticism from world leaders of Navalni’s detention, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized “Western countries are focusing on the Russian issue to divert attention from the crisis of liberal democracy.”

He asked reporters, “We are watching the way they jumped into the news of Navalni’s return to Russia. They were willing to start commenting on related issues, and one person did it and others replicated it.”
