On June 23, 1997, Super Mario was released as the title of the brand new Nintendo 64. A game that originally would offer a two-player mode, with Mario and Luigi as playable characters. Something that could not be implemented and Luigi was left out of the title.
The programmers left a statue inside the game. In a source you could find the text that said “L is real 2401”.
A message that is repeated in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Despite the doubts it may raise, a user asked Nintendo of America directly what it said there, confirming the idea of ”L is Real” in such messages.
The theories that inspired Ready Player One
Well, I do not know, but this “data” loose inside Mario 64 it lent itself to a series of theories about how Luigi could be played, the most popular being the myth of “collecting 2401 gold coins at the end of the game”. Something that nobody could solve, and everything was left in a cold cloth after the appearance of Super Mario 64 DS, where we could play with Luigi.
Well, within the leaks of the source code that Nintendo has suffered in recent times, data miners have found “voice clips in Luigi” and “text files for two player mode”. The audios have already been uploaded to Twitter.

This confirms that Luigi IS in the game. The interesting? This secret of Luigi in Mario 64 was solved exactly 24 years and one month after the release (occurred on June 23, 1996). If you add the numbers 2 + 4 + 0 + 1, it gives us the month (July), while if you add 24 + 01, it ends up delivering today.
A fact that surely will explode the heads of many players of the classic Nintendo title, and that surely, we will see soon on more than one Twitch channel with the brother of the plumber as the protagonist of this 64-bit adventure.
