Mysterious Comet Enters Solar System for the First Time

CALIFORNIA, iNews.id – Astronomer discover something in the universe that has never been seen before. Scientists found this new object confirmed as a comet.

The new object originates from the Oort Cloud and is officially designated as a comet on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. The designation comes a week after the first as a tiny moving dot in images archived by Dark Energy Camera.

Its official name is Comet C/2014 UN271 and is named after its discoverer who gave it the name Bernardinelli-Bernstein. So far, scientists have learned some interesting information about the comet, which is believed to be 62 miles wide.

It is currently 20 times Earth-sun from us. It will reach its closest point to the sun on January 23, 2031. At that time, it will be just outside the orbit of Saturn, placing it about 10.95 solar distances from Earth, as quoted from Slash Gears, Monday (28/6/2021).
