The petition immediately angered the public and Muslim leaders in India and condemned Rizvi’s actions, which were deemed to have hurt Muslim sentiment.

The All India Shia Private Law Council and many other Muslim organizations have condemned Rizvi’s actions and asked the Supreme Court to reject the petition.

Secretary General of the All India Muslim Personal Law Council Maulana Mahmood Daryabadi said not a single word in the Koran has been changed over the past 14 centuries.

“The Supreme Court must immediately disperse the petition. There is no verse of the Koran that provokes people to commit violence. Wasim Rizvi quoted those verses out of context,” said Daryabadi.

Activist Abbas Kazmi said Wasim Rizvi did this to create a rift between Shia and Sunnis.
