Almost exactly a week ago, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye aka The Weeknd was the first Canadian artist to perform at the NFL halftime show of the 55th Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida, following in the footsteps of musical greats like Michael Jackson, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga kicked.
The singer presented a medley from his previous hits and was supported by hundreds of dancers, several fireworks and a unique stage design.
The US broadcaster Showtime has now confirmed to the press that a documentary film about exactly this event is in the works.
The documentary is called “The Show” and is produced by the in-house content studio of Super Bowl sponsor Pepsi together with the production company Boardwalk Pictures.
Nadia Hallgren, who was nominated for two Emmy Awards last year for her documentary “Becoming” (2020) about Michelle Obama, will take over the direction of the film.
Overall, the upcoming film about The Weeknd should have a running time of 90 minutes and offer fans a look behind the scenes of this year’s NFL halftime show production.
The Weeknd last released on February 5th with “The Highlights” (2021) a best-of album, which comprises a total of 18 of his most famous tracks.
In addition to songs like “In Your Eyes”, “Save Your Tears” or “Blinding Lights” from his current LP “After Hour” (2020), the record also contains the “Black Panther” track “Pray For Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar or “I Feel It Coming” featuring Daft Punk from his 2016 album “Starboy”.
