Municipality: ‘Swimming is dangerous in many places due to poor water quality’

The quality of the water has temporarily deteriorated in various places in the city. Swimming in this polluted water is not healthy and is therefore not recommended.

A spokesman for the municipality reports this. The cause is the heavy rain showers of the past few days. To prevent flooding, there have been sewage overflows. This means that excess waste and rain water is discharged to surface water. If not, it could cause flooding.

Swimming in this water leads to an increased risk of health problems. The sewage overflows can cause pathogens to end up in the water. The water quality is likely to remain poor for about three to five days.

The places where the water quality has temporarily deteriorated:

-Amstel
-Eastern downtown
-Marineterrein

– Northern part of Kostverlorenvaart up to Marktkanaal

-IJburg (inland waterways)

-Garden village Oostzaan

-Park Frankendael

Java Island

Eastern Islands, Borneokade

-Johan van Hasselt Canal / NDSM area

-Waterland

-Environment Landsmeer
