Municipalities – Study: Fewer female managers in municipal companies – Politics

Potsdam / Friedrichshafen (dpa / bb) – According to a study, management positions in public companies in the state of Brandenburg are still often in the hands of men: of 120 positions in 89 companies, only 27 were held by women, as the study by Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen shows, which was presented on Tuesday. This corresponds to a share of 22.5 percent. Although the value was above the national average (19.7 percent), it was also 3.6 percent below the value of the previous year.

The analyzes relate to March / April of this year. 1469 public companies such as municipal utilities or hospitals in 69 cities were examined nationwide. City-states, state capitals and the four largest municipalities in each federal state were compared.

Offenbach was the front runner among the cities with a proportion of women of 56.5 percent, ahead of Rostock with 37.1 percent. Brandenburg an der Havel made it to fifth place – one place behind Berlin. Six of the 18 top management positions were held by women (33.3 percent). The state capital Potsdam does not make it into the top ranks with a share of 22 percent.

In the companies in the cities of Flensburg, Heidelberg, Neunkirchen and Bitterfeld-Wolfen, on the other hand, there were no female managers in the study period March / April 2020.
