Mülheim an der Ruhr – A new interactive exhibit launched today in Mülheim an der ruhr aims to equip citizens with the critical thinking skills needed to navigate today’s complex media landscape. The Aktionslabor „Redaktionelle Gesellschaft” (“Editorial Society” Action Lab), hosted at the city library in the Medienhaus, is now open to the public and will run through November 22, 2025.
The exhibit, created by the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS and supported by the Brost-Stiftung, arrives at a time when discerning credible information from misinformation is more crucial than ever. Through virtual reality experiences, a digital group game called “Citizen Quest,” and informative displays, visitors can explore how news is created, the ease with wich perceptions can be manipulated, and strategies for confidently evaluating information. The free lab underscores the importance of media literacy for informed civic engagement and a stronger community.
“The Action Lab is a fantastic possibility to engage directly and easily with the topic of news competence,” stated Dr. Daniela Grobe, Mülheim an der Ruhr’s City Councillor for Culture. “It demonstrates how vital it is for all of us to understand how information is generated and how to properly assess it – this strengthens our society.”
The city library will also host complimentary workshops to encourage discussion and critical thinking:
* November [Date not specified in source], 17:00 Uhr: “Nah und neutral? die Kunst der Berichterstattung” (“Close and Neutral? The Art of Reporting”)
* November [Date not specified in source], 17:00 Uhr: “Influencing - wem vertraust du?” (“Influencing – Who Do you Trust?”)
The Aktionslabor is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 18:30 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00, coinciding with the library’s opening hours on the frist floor. Admission is free.
