The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) issued a brief statement clarifying that no death of a 6-year-old child was recorded as a result of having been administered the coronavirus vaccine.
The portfolio denied a “widespread rumor” that circulated on social networks and clarified that “the death of any child of that age between Friday 14 and Tuesday 18 January has not been verified, nor has it received any complaint about any event with these characteristics or similar.
“We reiterate the recommendation to administer the vaccine against covid-19, of proven safety and efficacy, to children between 5 and 11 years of age, as well as to adolescents, and the third in the rest of the population contemplated in the National Plan of vaccination against covid-19,” the ministry said.
The government wants children between the ages of 5 and 11 to be immunized before the start of the school year on March 7.
The Secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgado, days ago, he stated that “before closing the year” the government reached an agreement with the Pfizer laboratory “to have 3 million 700 thousand doses for all Uruguayans by 2022”.
Delgado said in statements recorded by Underlined (Channel 10), which “There will be an annual revaccination (against covid-19) which is what the laboratory, doctors and the vaccine commission recommend today.” “And within that, some 400,000 pediatric doses are registered, which can be expanded. We are talking about two doses, and Uruguay is going to exceed about 88% of the total vaccinated population,” he added.
