MS Fonds is looking for collectors in Castricum

Castricum – The national collection of the National MS Fund will take place from 16 to 21 November. The organization is looking hard for collectors in the municipality of Castricum. A lot of money is needed to fight the disease multiple sclerosis (MS).

MS is the most debilitating disease among young people. It is a disease that affects the central nervous system. Because something is wrong in the immune system, the layer around the nerves is attacked and damaged. As a result, signals to and from the brain do not (properly) come through, causing paralysis and failure symptoms. In the Netherlands, 17,000 people have MS and about 1,000 people are added each year. The first symptoms usually occur between the ages of 20 and 40.

Research urgently needed

There is no solution for MS yet. Researchers don’t know how MS develops and how the disease can be cured. Research is therefore urgently needed. The National MS Fund invests the proceeds from the collection in innovative research into MS. The corona virus has a major impact, including on the National MS Fund. Due to the measures, fundraising events had to be postponed or canceled. As a result, the organization loses income. But research into MS must continue. The National MS Fund asks everyone who can miss two hours during the collection period to help with the collection. More information is on www.nationaalmsfonds.nl/collecteren to find. New collectors can register directly here.
