Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are moving forward with their highly anticipated adult animated series based on the critically acclaimed “Mr. Miracle” comic book run by Tom King and Mitch Gerads. The series, which centers on Scott Free – the world’s greatest escape artist – and his wife, Big Barda, promises a dark and complex exploration of war, free will, and the very nature of reality.
The story unfolds as Scott and Barda’s seemingly idyllic life on Earth begins to crumble amidst a devastating conflict between the planets Apocalypse and New Genesis. At the heart of the escalating war lies Darkseid, Scott’s adoptive father, who has seemingly acquired the terrifying Anti-Life Equation - a force capable of universal domination. As the last hope for peace, Mr.Miracle must confront not onyl external threats but also the potential corruption of his own mind.
Now, according to an exclusive report from Nexus Point News, casting is officially underway, and character breakdowns offer a first look at the key players who will populate this animated world.
Beyond the central trio of Scott Free, Big Barda, and Darkseid, the series will feature several meaningful New Gods. Among them:
* Funky Flashman: Described as a highly articulate character, Flashman will serve as a narrator throughout the series, reportedly drawing heavy inspiration from the iconic Stan Lee.
* Lightray: A staunchly loyal follower of Highfather and Orion, Lightray harbors a sense of superiority over Scott and Barda, believing himself above the missions assigned to him.
* highfather: The all-knowing leader of New Genesis, Highfather struggles to connect with his fellow New Gods due to his immense power and status. A complex history with Scott, stemming from a childhood decision to give him up to Darkseid, will be explored.
* Orion: Darkseid’s son, raised by Highfather, Orion carries the weight of his father’s anger and ambition, though he has long repressed it. He is poised to become a crucial mentor figure to Scott.
Notably, the casting call does not mention Granny Goodness, leaving her potential involvement in the series uncertain.
It remains unclear whether the “Mr. Miracle” series will be set within the established DC Universe continuity or exist as a standalone “Elseworlds” tale. Irrespective, the character reveals suggest a faithful adaptation of King and Gerads’s groundbreaking work, promising a mature and thought-provoking addition to DC’s animated offerings.
