MoveOutATX: Donate Items & Free Furniture Market in Austin

Austin, TXMoveOutATX, a city-wide initiative aimed at diverting usable items from landfills, is set to return for its annual event, offering residents a convenient way to donate gently used goods. The program, which partners with local reuse organizations, will operate donation stations throughout West Campus from July 26th to july 31st, daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Items will only be accepted during these specified operating hours.

In conjunction with the donation drive, the Free furniture Market will also be held for its fourth year. Participating reuse organizations will transport furniture donated at the stations to the UT Austin Whitaker Courts parking Lot. The market will be open to Austinites from July 26th to July 31st,from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.Items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Those wishing to acquire furniture must be able to transport it themselves and will be required to sign a liability waiver. A limit of two furniture pieces per person will be enforced, with furniture sets, such as a dining table and chairs, counted as a single item.

Community volunteers are being sought to assist at the Free Furniture Market. Interested individuals can sign up for shifts via AustinTexas.gov/MoveOutATX.

“MoveOutATX gives students an easy way to donate gently used items instead of sending them to the landfill,” stated Richard McHale, director of Austin Resource Recovery. “It’s a win for zero waste and a boost for our local reuse economy.”

Donation and Market details for 2025:

MoveOutATX donation stations will be accessible daily from July 26th to July 31st, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The designated locations are:

  • Camino Flats, 2810 Salado St. (near 28th St.)
  • Escala Condos, 1000 W 26th St. (near 26th St. and San Gabriel st.)
  • Lenox Condos, across the street from 2216 San Gabriel St.
  • 26 West, just south of 2620 Nueces St.
  • UT Whitaker Courts Parking Lot, 287 W 51st St. (near the tennis courts)

The Free Furniture Market will operate daily from July 26th to July 31st, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m., at the UT Whitaker Courts Parking Lot, located at 287 W 51st St., Austin, TX 78751. Access to the parking lot is off 51st Street, near the tennis courts.

This year’s participating reuse organizations include Austin Area Urban League, Austin Creative Reuse, goodwill Central Texas, Salvation Army Family Stores, UT Outpost, the SAFE Alliance, Eco-Spot, IREP Junk removal and Resale, JOSCO Products, and Arms of Hope.
