Mouthwashes may be helpful in the fight against coronavirus

Scientists at the Pennsylvania College of Medicine in the United States have found that mouthwashes and oral antiseptics have been shown to inactivate human coronaviruses.

Research results reported in press release institutions have demonstrated that certain agents may be helpful in reducing oral viral load after infection.

It is noted that several mouthwash and nasopharyngeal rinses have been tested for their ability to inactivate coronaviruses similar to SARS-Cov-2. Samples also included a percentage solution of baby shampoo, hydrogen peroxide mouthwash, and other antiseptic solutions.

The listed substances were in contact with viruses from 30 seconds to two minutes before subsequent dilution. The cultured human cells were then added to these solutions. It turned out that the percentage solution of baby shampoo used by doctors to treat the sinuses killed up to 99.9% of the viruses. Most of the mouth rinses also killed almost 100% of the virus after half a minute of contact.

Now experts have decided to conduct clinical trials of mouthwash and see if they can reduce viral load in coronavirus patients.
