Mourning at the UIS and Legal Medicine in Bucaramanga for the death of a pathologist

Ehe doctor Pedro Luis Forero Porras, a professor at the Industrial University of Santander – UIS and an official of the National Institute of Legal Medicine, fought for a month against COVID-19. However, he died on Wednesday afternoon in the Intensive Care Unit of the International Hospital of Colombia – HIC, in Piedecuesta.

Although the origin of its infection has not been confirmed, it is presumed that it could be infected when handling the corpse of a person who carried the coronavirus.

Forero was a graduate of the Industrial University of Santander, UIS, Medical Surgeon graduated in 1998 and in 2006 as a Pathologist. For 13 years he was in Legal Medicine where he worked as a pathologist, forensic lawyer and forensic. Ten years ago he decided to alternate that job with teaching in the Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine at UIS.

“His work, dedication, commitment and identity with the alma mater are some of the main memories of this great human being.

“His undergraduate and graduate colleagues, and co-workers remember him as a respectful, prudent, shy, chivalrous, collaborative friend, and always ready to support recently graduated physicians in difficult decision-making in the field of Legal Medicine,” reported the educational institution in a statement.

Forero was at the forefront of anatomical variations research for years, which led him to become a full professor at the UIS.

In Legal Medicine, yesterday the flag was raised at half mast and on an altar, his colleagues paid tribute to him with flowers and candles.
