KOMPAS.com – AS Roma coach, Jose Mourinho, was charged by UEFA after hitting referee Anthony Taylor after the 2022-2023 Europa League final.

The 2022-2023 Europa League final brought AS Roma and Sevilla together at the Puskas Arena, Budapest, Hungary, Thursday (1/6/2023) early morning WIB.

AS Roma took the lead through Paulo Dybala’s goal in the 35th minute. However, Sevilla equalized 20 minutes later thanks to an own goal by Roma defender Gianluca Mancini.

Prior to confronting Anthony Taylor in the parking lot, Mourinho also voiced his criticism in the press conference after the Europa League final.

“I have to defend my players and have to say we are used to this, but still to see a referee like this in a European final is very difficult,” said Mourinho.

Mourinho also protested against Anthony Taylor’s decision not to give AS Roma a penalty when Nemanja Matic’s pass hit the arm of Sevilla’s Fernando Reges.

In addition, Mourinho also considered that the referee should have given a red card to Seville midfielder, Erik Lamela.

“It was a yellow card and obviously a yellow card. The injustice is shown by the fact that Lamela should have received a second yellow card, but he (the referee) didn’t give it and he converted a penalty in the penalty shootout,” Mourinho said after the match, quoted by Football Italia.

Meanwhile, Anthony Taylor also received unpleasant treatment from US Roam fans at Budapest Airport on Thursday (1/6/2023).

According to reports by Metro, Roma fans could be heard shouting their anger at the Premier League referee after they recognized the referee in the airport food court.

In fact, one of the Roma fans threw a chair when Anthony Taylor and his family were walking.

Football Italia reports that the fan who threw the chair has been detained by the authorities. Anthony Taylor and his family then had to be evacuated to a private room for safety.
