Mount St. Mary’s Soccer Loses to Sacred Heart; Next Game vs. Manhattan

FAIRFIELD,⁢ Conn. (October 4,2025) – A‌ staunch ​defensive effort by Mount St. Mary’s men’s⁢ soccer faltered⁤ in the closing ‌minutes Saturday, resulting in ⁣a​ 1-0 road loss to Sacred ⁤Heart.The Mountaineers’ setback halts their momentum in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play as they search⁢ for ⁣consistency in a competitive season.

Mount ⁢St. Mary’s (1-5-4, 1-2 ⁣MAAC) battled to a scoreless⁢ tie‍ for over 80 minutes, largely due to the ⁣strong performance of goalkeeper Julian‌ Marcos, who recorded⁤ seven saves. Defenders Christian Kyriacou, Maciej Majcherczyk, ‍Maks Czyz, Antoine DeCoteau, and‍ substitute ​Evan Gaines ⁤collectively limited Sacred Heart’s attack, deflecting numerous‌ shots before they could threaten the goal.

Sacred Heart broke ⁤the deadlock‍ when midfielder⁣ Danny ​Istambouli scored his second goal of the ‍season, capitalizing on ⁣a ‍pass from Matthew Sarro.The late goal propelled Sacred Heart (5-3-2, ‍4-0 ⁢MAAC) ‌to remain⁣ undefeated in conference competition.
