FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 4,2025) – A staunch defensive effort by Mount St. Mary’s men’s soccer faltered in the closing minutes Saturday, resulting in a 1-0 road loss to Sacred Heart. The Mountaineers’ setback halts their momentum in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play as they search for consistency in a competitive season.
Mount St. Mary’s (1-5-4, 1-2 MAAC) battled to a scoreless tie for over 80 minutes, largely due to the strong performance of goalkeeper Julian Marcos, who recorded seven saves. Defenders Christian Kyriacou, Maciej Majcherczyk, Maks Czyz, Antoine DeCoteau, and substitute Evan Gaines collectively limited Sacred Heart’s attack, deflecting numerous shots before they could threaten the goal.
Sacred Heart broke the deadlock when midfielder Danny Istambouli scored his second goal of the season, capitalizing on a pass from Matthew Sarro. The late goal propelled Sacred Heart (5-3-2, 4-0 MAAC) to remain undefeated in conference competition.
The Mountaineers return to Emmitsburg next Saturday, October 11, to face Manhattan at Waldron Family Stadium, seeking to rebound from the defeat and improve their standing in the MAAC standings.
