Netflix officially has a second season of the hugely popular Squid Game announced. The series is the most popular ever on the streaming service, but there has been no news about a new season so far.
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk shared the news in a letter to fans. “A new round is coming,” the letter has been captioned.
“It took twelve years to finish the first season of Squid Game but only twelve days to make it the most popular Netflix series ever. As a writer, director and producer of Squid Game I want to say a big thank you to everyone for that,” writes Hwang.
“Gi-hun is coming back, The Front Man is coming back. Season 2 is coming,” the creator continues. In the second season, the boyfriend of character Young-hee may be introduced, Hwang reveals.
Squid Game has been viewed by approximately 142 million Netflix users worldwide. The series is about a society in which a mysterious organization recruits people in debt to compete for $38 million in a series of seemingly childish games. Most of these players are brutally killed.
It is not yet known when the second season will be shown.
