“It was a brave, heroic, complex operation, but it failed. We failed,” said Barnea Times of Israel, Tuesday (5/10/2021).

The Mossad operation was initially leaked by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett during a meeting with the local Parliament on Monday. Bennett did not go into details about the operation, including whether it was successful or not.

The Israeli defense official, who declined to be named, said the operation should not have been made public.

“It’s better not to be published. Unfortunately there is no breakthrough here,” he said.

Arad, a soldier serving as an Israeli Air Force navigator, attempts to save a fighter plane that crashed over Lebanon during a 1986 bombing mission.

Initially held captive by Lebanese Amal guerrillas, he is widely thought to be no longer alive. He was last heard alive in 1988.
