The Russian embassy confirmed that at the request of the “Bulgarian leadership” the gas supplier has made concessions

“In the midst of the energy crisis that engulfed the EU on the eve of winter, Russia, despite unfounded criticism, remains a reliable partner of Europe. At the request of the Bulgarian leadership, Gazprom has increased the volume of daily gas supplies in excess of those agreed under the current agreement. As a result, instead of the expected price increase to BGN 119.87 per megawatt-hour, in November the price of gas for Bulgaria decreased to BGN 93.19, which is approximately twice as much. cheaper than average prices in Europe. “

This is stated in a message from the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria, published on its Facebook page. Here is what it says:

Gazprom has often been criticized for having long-term contracts tied to oil. They emphasized that the gas market is sufficiently developed to effectively maintain the mechanism of gas indexation. Today we have to ask the players on the European market, how much cheaper is the gas tied to the price of oil than the spot? How much more profitable is a long-term contract than a spot deal?

Of course, in the system of long-term oil contracts, the price of gas can be very volatile. It should not be forgotten, however, about such a factor as price predictability, which allows to anticipate risks and provide in a timely manner. Buying gas cheaply now is great, but it’s even better to know in advance how much it will cost in a month, quarter or year.

Gazprom has always respected the position of its partners. That is why last year, at the insistence of Sofia, as well as the European Commission, the Russian company switched to the new system of calculating the price for Bulgaria, tied to the European gas market. Moreover, both before and after these changes, the Russian company has impeccably complied with all its obligations to Bulgarian consumers. “

The embassy’s announcement came tonight after days of debates over whether the price of gas had indeed fallen and whether the caretaker government’s claims that the reduced price of natural gas was the result of their talks with Gazprom were true.
