Mohamed Basri, director of consular and social affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the situation of Moroccans trapped abroad. According to him, their repatriation will take place in the coming days.

“Currently 18,174 Moroccan citizens are stranded abroad, most of them in Europe. … Some of these fellow citizens have received help from diplomatic services at their own request. They are accompanied and have regular contact with the consular services.” said Basri.

According to the minister, their repatriation to Morocco is an important issue, but their return “should not be urgent”. The repatriation of stranded Moroccans “must be well prepared to be successful”. Also “all conditions must be met during and after repatriation”.

Mohamed Basri stated that everyone is making an effort to make the repatriation of Moroccan nationals a success. “It is important that we can guarantee the safety and health of our fellow citizens stranded abroad and of our fellow citizens in Morocco. That is the challenge and it requires solidarity and understanding.”
