Morena Gears Up for Elections with Focus on Grassroots Institution and Mayoral Training
MEXICO CITY – The National Council of the ruling Morena party is set to convene and discuss key initiatives aimed at bolstering its organizational strength and preparing its elected officials for upcoming electoral challenges. Central to these discussions will be the implementation of a Sectional Organizational Plan and a extensive municipal training program for its mayors.
The Sectional Organizational Plan,as outlined in a discussion document, seeks to fortify Morena’s internal structure by encouraging active participation from its membership in establishing “sectional Committees for the Defense of the Transformation.” These committees are envisioned as the territorial bedrock of the party in each electoral section across the country. They will serve as ongoing platforms for collective work, designed to foster militancy engagement in electoral organization, promote vote gathering and protection, and disseminate the core principles, values, and programs of the “fourth transformation.” The National Council is expected to issue operational guidelines for these committees, detailing their integration, internal organization, functioning, and responsibilities. Following this, the National Executive Committee will be tasked with issuing a formal call for their formation.
In parallel, the Council will consider the approval of a municipal plan. This initiative aims to provide practical and technical training to Morena’s more than 1,100 mayors, equipping them to champion honesty, austerity, transparency, and social justice as guiding principles in their governance. This political and technical training platform, coupled with evaluations of municipal management, is intended to cultivate a shared programmatic identity among Morena-led governments. The program will also target those seeking mayoral, trustee, and councilor positions in future elections, ensuring they are prepared to govern effectively and manage public resources with integrity and efficiency.A key tenet emphasized in the discussion documents is that Morena’s elected representatives are committed to service, not self-service. The National Executive Committee, in collaboration with the National Institute of Political Training, will spearhead the implementation of this municipal plan.
Beyond these strategic plans, the national Council will also address new regulations for admitting new members into the party. Additionally, the national leadership will be instructed to renew and establish an advisory council comprising 300 councilors. These measures are being undertaken as part of a broader effort to strengthen the party’s readiness for the next electoral cycle, a priority highlighted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
