To be sure, that happens. There are no indications that their files have ended up with the Turkish authorities, writes State Secretary Ankie Broekers-Knol to the House of Representatives.
The asylum seekers may have been at risk since Turkey arrested a Turkish lawyer who worked in Istanbul for the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). The arrestee, who collected information for the IND on the spot, may have IND documents with sensitive information about them. This could cause problems for asylum seekers, including opponents of the Ankara regime.
Ten asylum seekers have already received a residence permit because of the arrest. Their files may not have been destroyed. This does, however, apply to older files, if the lawyer picked up has adhered to the agreements with the IND. As the Netherlands is not sure about this, asylum seekers may also remain as a subject that the man has previously considered.
