According to news reports, 22 people, including members of the Argentine intelligence service, were arrested on Tuesday for spying on politicians, journalists and businessmen.

And Argentina’s national news agency, Tilam, reported that espionage operations were taking place during the government of former President Mauricio Macri, who took office until December 10, and targeted hundreds of people.

The detainees include the former head of the Argentine Intelligence Agency’s anti-spy service, two former agency agents, and a former presidential official suspected of receiving information from the intelligence agency.

The Macri government is suspected to have been spying on its political opponents and journalists participating in international events in Buenos Aires, union members, civil society leaders and entrepreneurs.

Among the people targeted by espionage activities are the former president and current vice president Christina Fernandez de Kirchner, who has taken judicial action on the matter.
