It is for the second day in a row, and for the second time this year, that the number of infections exceeds three hundred. Yesterday, a record number of 330 new infections in Drenthe were reported. On average, 284 infections per day were registered in Drenthe in the past seven days.
The figures may still be adjusted, due to a technical problem, the GGDs had a delay in passing on the figures to RIVM.

National figures
Between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, 12,052 positive corona tests were registered nationwide. That figure may also be biased. The delay was due to a malfunction at a supplier of the GGDs. That glitch was resolved in the course of Saturday, but its effect may also be visible in the daily figures in the coming days.
The number of 12,052 is slightly lower than the previous days, but for a Sunday it is particularly high. Since the start of the epidemic, there has only been one Sunday with more positive tests: December 20 last year. On that day, RIVM reported just under 13,000 new cases. Until this week, that was the daily record for the Netherlands.
Because the number of positive tests is higher than on previous Sundays, the average continues to rise. In the past seven days, RIVM reported 94,252 positive tests, an average of 13,465 per day. That’s a new record.
The average is rising for the 45th consecutive day. The last time the average rose continuously for that long was in September and October last year, at the start of the second wave. Then the average rose 57 days in a row.
RIVM received seven reports last day that a corona patient had died as a result of the infection. That is comparable to previous Sundays. When a corona patient dies during the weekend, this is often reported in the course of Monday. Those deaths can then be seen in the figures that the RIVM reports on Tuesday.
In the past seven days, RIVM recorded the death of 173 corona patients, an average of almost 25 per day.
Hospitals
Dutch hospitals are currently treating 1,863 corona patients, reports the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS). That is again an increase compared to 24 hours ago, when 1790 people with corona occupied a hospital bed.
There are currently 377 seriously ill people in intensive care with Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. On balance, that is 12 patients more than a day earlier. 32 new people with corona were admitted to the ICUs, but because people also died or left the department, the total number of patients admitted increased less rapidly.
The latest figures from hospitals in Drenthe from last Friday show that 33 corona patients have been admitted to a Drenthe hospital, 9 of which are on an IC bed.
