Lohmeyer, who was born in Sauerland in 1962, moved frequently with his family because of his father’s job, who was a pastor. He was the youngest of three children. Among other things, the family lived in Stuttgart for a few years, where Lohmeyer played football in the youth team of VfB Stuttgart. His nickname “Schalke” comes from this time because he took part in the Stuttgart training with a Schalke jersey. However, he did not succeed in becoming a professional footballer.

Great acting career

After graduating from the Westfälische Drama School in Bochum, he acted in the theater for many years and gained his first stage experience. His first feature film followed in 1988 with the German comedy Tiger, Löwe, Panther. He celebrated an acting highlight in 2003 in the drama “The Miracle of Bern” alongside his son Louis Klamroth, in which he played a former prisoner of war and family man who had to integrate into the tough post-war everyday life in the Ruhr area during the 1954 World Cup.

Social commitment and a heart for children

While Lohmeyer is now one of the most renowned actors in the country and is a member of the German Film Academy, he always supports socially and financially disadvantaged people. Since 2008 he has regularly taken part in the charity game “Kicken mit Herz” in Hamburg. As a result, he also became a member of the German Academy for Football Culture.

He is an ambassador for the “Respect! No place for racism” and patron of the non-profit association Placebo Kickers Hamburg eV He donates to SOS Children’s Villages and in 2005 auctioned off a picture he painted himself, the proceeds of which also went to an SOS Children’s Village. In line with his attitude, he gave up his membership in his heart club FC Schalke 04 in 2019 after Clemens Tönnies’ racist statements and remained true to himself and his principles.
