More than half of the Covid-19 cases opened on Wednesday were registered in Riga and Kuldiga region – Latvia

Out of 44 new cases of Covid-19 infection detected last day, 14 cases have been registered in Riga and Kuldiga region, according to the data compiled by SPKC.

Thus, the number of cases of Covid-19 detected in these municipalities makes up 63.6% of the cases of infection detected last day.

Seven cases were detected in Daugavpils, while two cases were registered in Jūrmala, as well as in Olaine and Talsi districts. In turn, one patient was registered in Krāslava and Salaspils districts, as well as in Valmiera.

No cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Saldus municipality.

The highest number of infected people is in the age group from 40 to 49 years, where 12 people became ill. This is followed by children under the age of nine, where nine cases have been registered.

Six patients are in the age group of 50 to 59 years, while five cases were registered in the age groups of 30 to 39 and from 60 to 69 years. Three more cases were reported between the ages of 20 and 29, while two cases were between the ages of ten and 19 and between the ages of 70 and 70.

It has already been reported that 44 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Latvia last day, according to SPKC data.

The information available to the SPKC shows that 33 patients became infected from known sources of infection, one person became infected in Finland, but the conditions of infection are still being clarified for 10 persons. The epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

In the last day, a total of 4,699 Covid-19 tests have been performed in the country, while a total of 324,717 Covid-19 examinations have been performed so far, 1,868 persons have become ill and 1,307 have recovered. A total of 37 people who had been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 died.

The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients continues to grow. Three patients with Covid-19 were hospitalized during the last day. A total of 21 Covid-19 patients are treated in hospitals, of whom 19 have a moderate course of disease and two have a severe course of the disease. To date, 230 patients have been discharged from hospitals, including both recovered and deceased.

0.9% of the tests performed yesterday were positive. Yuri Perevoshchikov, Director of the Infectious Diseases Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the SPKC, previously explained that this figure is considered important in the European Union (EU) because, beyond the 3% threshold, the spread of the disease is considered rapid and uncontrolled. Yesterday, when 95 cases of Covid-19 were reported, 2.2% of the tests were positive. Only on September 20, this indicator was below 1% in all Baltic countries, including 0.3% in Latvia.
