March against Ouattara’s 3rd term: More than ten opposition women arrested by the police

The women of the Ivorian political opposition have maintained their slogan of march against the controversial candidacy of President Alassane Ouattara for a third presidential term, despite the measure banning demonstrations on the public highway.

This Friday, August 21, 2020, at Sodemi Square, the meeting point for this protest march, several of them were arrested by the police, as noted by abidjan.net.

The information of the arrest of these women was confirmed by Mrs. Adèle N’Dabia, executive secretary of the PDCI-RDA, in charge of women, in an interview on the Tv web of colleague Le Bélier.

“They picked up all the women who came for the walk; their phones were ripped off. We do not have all their names for the moment, ”she told the media. “We are in a country which is not democratic (…) But we remain mobilized. We will not give up, ”she argued.

And Ms. N ‘Dabian continues: “We do not accept that (President Ouattara) tramples our constitution. The Constitution limits the number of mandate to two and he has the obligation to respect it. We demand the release of all women from the opposition and from civil society, unjustly arrested by the regime; the release of all political prisoners and of conscience (…) ”.

The women from the CDRP and EDS platforms, from the LIDER and URD parties, had made an appointment early this Friday morning at the SODEMI crossroads in Cocody, to travel to the Duncan crossroads near the headquarters of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI ).

Objective of the march: to say no to this candidacy of the outgoing Head of State in the election of October 31, deemed “illegal” under the Ivorian constitution.
