more than 700 hens saved from slaughter have found a new home

This Saturday, September 28 in Caen, the former association and now the Poule Pour Tous company sold to individuals nearly 700 hens saved from slaughter.

If its status has changed since August 20, its missions remain the same: save chickens from slaughter and offer them a golden retirement. This Saturday, September 28, the company Poule Pour Tous had made an appointment with its customers on the Drive de la Fourmilière in Caen to fill them.
And the operation was a success. Of the 764 hens, only about thirty had not found takers at the start of the afternoon. “But it will go very quickly. We will call back the people who came this morning to find out if they are interested in taking more and then we will consult our waiting lists”, explains Thomas Dano, the boss of the company.

“All four parties are winners”

Because, individuals flock to welcome these 18 month old hens, organic and raised in the open air. “They were all reserved before the sale this morning. Afterwards, there are always withdrawals, but between the curious passed by chance and the waiting list we always find solutions “, Thomas Dano continues. “They were part of a rescue of 3,300 hens carried out near Niort and they will be put up for adoption across France. Thanks to our antennas, we cover about a third of the territory. The idea is not to concentrate sales in one place, but multiply areas to facilitate adoptions. ” To adopt one, you had to pay € 7, € 35 for 6 and € 70 for 12.

Before the breeders had only one solution: slaughter. Now they have two. And we are happy that they favor us more and more. Between the breeder, the hens, the customers and us, there are four winning parties.

Thomas Dano, owner of Poule Pour Tous.

Casseroles which are popular with individuals, and which – contrary to what one might think – breeders do not part with gaiety of heart. “They are a little less productive at 18 months, but this is not the main reason that pushes them to part with them. They are obliged to do so for reasons of hygiene. The buildings must be completely cleaned of droppings to avoid especially diseases and herders cannot tell their neighbors : “Can you keep them for me while I clean this up?” The solution was slaughter. Now they have us. “

These animals, Poule Pour Tous, buy them back from the breeders at a cost price higher than that which the slaughter would bring. A detail that is not. It helps to better understand why the company does not intend to extend its rescues to hens raised in battery: “As long as I am at the head of the company, we will not buy hens raised in battery from breeders. Firstly, because I do not endorse this method of breeding and therefore we do not favor them. offer a more advantageous solution than slaughter. And two because they have great difficulty adapting to another life. The hen is a very cardiac animal. We would lose half of it during transport. they survive. Chances are they will die within days of adoption, and buyers would rightly complain. “
