Support and Shared Endeavors

Schuttel cherishes memories from the era of “Het Oude Eigen Huis & Tuin,” which aired on saturday evenings until 2020. During this period, his wife,Ellen, actively participated in the garden renovations. Working alongside his gardening team, the production crew, and the presenters, they engaged in extensive filming days. Schuttel fondly recalls these as “great projects to make with such a large group of people.” He notes ellen’s notable contribution, not only in fostering a positive atmosphere on set with her distinctive Brabant accent but also in her practical involvement, including helping with paving. For two years, she also served as the stylist for the program.

A Sense of Loss

The discontinuation of both the original “Eigen Huis & Tuin” and its subsequent iteration, “Eigen Huis & Tuin: Lekker Leven,” came as a significant blow to Schuttel. He expressed a feeling of emptiness, stating, “It still feels very empty.” Schuttel voiced his hope for the revival of a similar program, emphasizing the value of “Eigen Huis & Tuin: Lekker Leven” as a blend of carpentry, cooking, and interior design. He believes such programs are crucial for providing viewers with inspiration for their own homes and gardens. For Schuttel, the experience was a dream realized, but also a dream that has now concluded.
