More than 500 people will participate in the Via Dolorosa in Alijó

The live show will take place during Holy Week, on the 5th of April, starting at 9 pm, and includes the staging of several paintings of the Via Sacra in different places in the town.

This initiative belongs to the municipality, with the close collaboration of the 14 Parish Councils, and has the participation of elements from local associations and the community in general, who quickly embraced this cultural project.

The artistic director of the show, Marco Aurélio, assures that this recreation of the Via Sacra “is the largest staging of the Via Sacra with active actors”, with each of the participants playing a specific character in the recreation.

In recent weeks, more than 500 people have dedicated part of their time to rehearsals to bring the 14 stations of the “Via Dolorosa” to life. The open-air show will last around 1h45 and follows the narrative sequence of the last days of Jesus Christ, with each painting being staged by a parish, in a specific place in the village, giving it its own unique dynamic.

The various scenes that make up the dramatization begin in the area surrounding Plátano. The first scene will take place in front of the Tribunal, with the arrival of Christ and the apostles. Then, the entrance to Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) will be recreated, at the back of the Mother Church. The following scenes accompany several paintings in the churchyard of the Igreja Matriz, in the Fountain, in Praça do Município, in front of the City Hall, in the square in front of the Volunteer Fire Department, on the stairs of the EB2,3/S de Alijó School and in the amphitheater of the Piscinas Municipal.
