Dhe health authorities in Germany reported 4,325 new corona infections within 24 hours on Monday morning, according to the Robert Koch Institute. The value is comparatively low, also because not all health authorities transmit data on weekends. Based on the 2467 infections reported on Monday last week, the current value is significantly higher. The number of new infections reached 7830 for the third time in a row on Saturday.
According to the RKI, at least 366,299 people in Germany have been proven to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the beginning of the Corona crisis. The number of deaths related to an infection was therefore 9789. That was twelve more than the previous day. According to estimates by the RKI, there are around 294,800 people recovered.
Behavior is decisive
SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach is counting less on the containment measures in the fight against the corona virus. “It will depend on how the population behaves. That is more important than individual measures. Many editions are difficult to check in any case, ”the doctor told the newspapers of the Funke media group.
If the corona virus continues to spread so quickly, Lauterbach expects local shutdowns in Germany. “It’s very simple. If we don’t get the R value down, the daily number of cases will rise so rapidly within a very short time that the clinics and health authorities will be overrun. Then there will be local shutdowns. “
According to research by the FAZ, the health authorities are already less and less able to determine the origin of infections.
R value increases to 1.4
The reproductive number, also known as the R value, indicates how many other people an infected person infects. According to the Robert Koch Institute’s management report from Saturday evening, the R value rose from around 1.3 to 1.4. It depicts the infection process about a week and a half beforehand.
In addition, the RKI gives a so-called seven-day R. The value relates to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. It is now 1.35 (previous day: 1.37) and shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago
Chancellor Angela Merkel asked people on Saturday to limit social contacts and travel less in view of the skyrocketing number of infections. “We now have to do everything we can to ensure that the virus does not spread uncontrollably. Every day now counts, ”said the CDU politician in her weekly video message.
Members of the Bundestag from several parties are now calling for parliament to have a say in the Corona measures. There is a threat of a permanent shift of competence away from parliament and towards the government.
According to a survey, more than two thirds of Germans tend to be satisfied with the federal government’s corona crisis management. 68 percent of those questioned rated the leadership in a survey by the Kantar opinion research institute on behalf of “Bild am Sonntag” as “rather good”. For 27 percent it is “rather bad”. 4 percent answered “don’t know”.
