More than 25% increase in traffic at the port of Safi at the end of July 2020

Traffic passing through the port of Safi reached a volume of around 4.8 million tonnes (MT) at the end of July, an increase of 25.4% compared to the same period in 2019.

This development is attributable in particular to the strong rebound in imports of coal (+ 353.4%), cereals (75.5%) and exports of phosphates (+ 53.4%) and gypsum (+ 27.3%) , says a report from the National Ports Agency (ANP).

In terms of grain imports, the port of Safi is ranked 5th, thus representing 3.8% of this national traffic behind the ports of Casablanca (56.5%), Jorf Lasfar (23.3%), Agadir ( 23.3%) and Nador (5.9%).

The ports managed by the ANP recorded an overall traffic of 54.7 MT at the end of July 2020, up 6.3% compared to the same period a year earlier.

The distribution of traffic by port shows that the ports of Mohammedia, Casablanca and Jorf Lasfar ensured the transit of 43 MT, which represents approximately 78.6% of the traffic of the ports managed by the ANP.
