More Madrid has decided to postpone the congress that it had planned to hold this Saturday, May 2, different sources of this training have confirmed. The date, which will be next June, is still being debated at the municipal and regional level, but it has already been decided that it will be a telematic appointment taking into account the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
In this congress the directorates will be chosen and the statutes will be approved. The training, essentially focused on its presence in the Community of Madrid and the City Council after failing to obtain the desired results in the Congress of Deputies, will later hold a more political congress when it is possible to carry it out in person. They estimate it to be next fall.
The experience of organizing a congress in these circumstances worries. At the moment the technical group in charge of the preparations is looking for a way to facilitate participation to as many people as possible, including supporters. “We are looking for tools to bridge the digital divide and we are thinking about the possibility of holding a kind of hybrid congress,” says Councilwoman Carolina Pulido, who attended the municipal elections at number 20 on the list and finally held a seat after Manuela’s resignation. Carmena.
While the date of the congress arrives, the one that is the majority force in the City Council has presented the so-called Pacts of Cibeles, its bet for the city to face the way out of the crisis and in which they believe it should be directly involved, in addition to the entire political spectrum, civil society.
Manuela Carmena promoted Más Madrid, which won the municipal elections last year with the obtaining of 19 councilors. But the candidate to repeat command in the mayor’s office was displaced by the pact between the Popular Party and Citizens. Carmena said that he was not going to lead the opposition and withdrew from political life. In the Community, Más Madrid, which has suffered significant defections in recent months, is the fourth force with 20 seats.
The training must decide which path is to be followed after the More Country project that had Íñigo Errejón as candidate for Prime Minister was deflated.
