After a long dry spell, the Lufthansa Group has now resumed flight connections from Dresden and Leipzig. These should now even be supplemented by some (old) routes.
After the Lufthansa Group seems to be on the upswing after the almost complete shutdown at the height of the corona crisis, the most important airports in eastern Germany are now increasingly benefiting from it. The flight connections of the crane group from Leipzig-Halle and Dresden are now also to be increased, as reported by airliners.de, among others.

Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna – many new-old transfer options
Above all, the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings will again be operating significantly more flights from the two airports in Leipzig-Hall and Dresden. From the end of August, for example, there will be up to five times a week from Dresden to Cologne-Bonn. Airbus A319 and A320 are used. Eurowings is also once again serving the flight connections to Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Palma de Mallorca. Lufthansa had already connected Saxony’s state capital with the crane hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.
A regular connection to Vienna with the subsidiary Austrian Airlines is planned for the beginning of September from Leipzig-Halle Airport. From September 2nd, the Austrian capital will be five times a week. This will significantly increase the number of transfers from Leipzig in particular. Via Vienna there are connections to long-distance destinations such as Chicago and Washington, and short and medium-haul routes include Athens, Thessaloniki, Nice, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Sofia and Graz.
The Lufthansa core brand is also flying back to Munich from Leipzig-Halle. From September 7th, the route to the Bavarian capital will be operated up to eleven times a week. Here, too, the connection offers numerous transfer options, for example to London, Paris and Rome for short and medium-haul destinations, as well as New York and San Francisco for long-haul routes.
Conclusion on increasing the offer
More and more airports in Germany are benefiting from the upswing and the return of “new-normal” air traffic. The Lufthansa Group is again using more aircraft on more routes, from which Dresden and Leipzig-Halle will continue to benefit. Of course, the current situation is developing again in a rather unpleasant direction, which could also lead to renewed flight stops, or at least cancellations and cuts. But for the moment, as well as the connections within Germany, this is good news.
