Minister of Justice Poseck visits Frankfurt

by Norbert Dorholt

(05.10.2022) Hessian Minister of Justice Prof. Dr. Roman Poseck visited the regional court in Frankfurt am Main on Tuesday to meet the president, Dr. Wilhelm Wolf, representatives of local committees and legal apprentices.

The minister explained during his visit: “Due to the size of the court, the financial and economic position of Frankfurt and the focus of accountability of various proceedings, a large number of high-profile cases are dealt with in the Frankfurt regional court. Less. The scope of many procedures is also exceptional. The Frankfurt District Court is one of the largest and most important district courts in Germany. Over 160 judges and over 230 employees work here. I would like to thank all the employees for their tireless efforts ”.

Of the nearly 500 new jobs planned for the judiciary in the Hessian state government’s draft budget 2023/24, one hundred will be for judges and prosecutors. “In particular, 59 judges are foreseen for the ordinary jurisdiction, so that the Frankfurt regional court can also benefit from the additional positions. We will continue to strengthen the court in terms of staff. Without anticipating the exact distribution of seats, it can be assumed that the increase in seats will mean that many more chambers can be established here in the district court. This is our reaction to the high burden, also due to extensive criminal proceedings and many mass proceedings, “the minister said.

And again: “Although the increase in jobs is a good signal for the rule of law, intense efforts are needed to recruit junior staff for the Hessian judiciary so that positions can be filled as quickly as possible. It is therefore a pleasure for me to be able to speak today with the legal trainees at the Frankfurt Regional Court. Among other things, the pilot project ‘Referendums as recorders in criminal matters’ was presented. The Frankfurt Regional Court is currently investigating whether trainee lawyers can be employed as archivists for secondary work in criminal hearings. I welcome this new approach because it can be a key element in establishing an early link with the judiciary. Our common goal is to increase the attractiveness of the Hessian judiciary as an employer in order to continue to guarantee an efficient constitutional state. “
